Wandering in San José, Costa Rica
Just returned from 5 amazing days in Costa Rica, my first time in the country, and to make the story short, I hope I can get back soon.
Costa Rica, is colorful, warm, with great people and amazing outdoors, I just visited San Jose and the Arenal Volcano area and I am really impressed. I stayed in San Jose for one day, most travelers just pass by the capital and go straight to the main attractions, with amazing beaches, volcanoes, tropical jungles and outdoor activities there is much to see and do, but I also wanted to see and experience their capital city, at least for one day.
It is a little bit sad all the warnings you get once you arrive, from the airport, to the car rental company, to the hotel, don't go there, don't do this, don't do that, so when out for a the walk I just took a Canon G1 X that I brought with me; this was a rental camera, as I just wanted to have a secondary camera for occasions were I didn't want to carry the big D4. I loved the stealth factor of the camera, you can shoot from the hip and nobody notice you're shooting, a plus sometimes, but for me the quality is not there yet, specially when you are in low light situations, and to be honest I never felt insecure or at danger at anytime, not even at night. So I really regret leaving the D4 in the hotel room.
San José is a very interesting city, located in the central valley is the largest city in the country, and I really had a great time shooting the streets, merchants and culture.
Then, dropped by the Central Market, or "Mercado Central" spend a couple of hours there, it occupies an entire block with over 200 shops, full of narrow alleys, cheap restaurants that the locals call "sodas" and all kind of products, from meats, fruits, vegetables, coffees to herbal remedies, clothing and local handcrafts, I loved the place and local color.
Well, that's all for now, more coming soon...For licensing information and prints, just contact me.
