Sacred Valley in Photos, from Cusco to Ollantaytambo | Peru

The sun is just about to break. It’s almost five in the morning and the night bus from Puno is pulling into the Cusco terminal. It was a long ride but I can’t wait to start this leg of the trip.

I am here on my way to Ollantaytambo to catch the train for Ciudad Machu Picchu, but first there is the amazing region of the Sacred Valley to be enjoyed. Stretching for about 60 kilometers in Peru’s Andean highlands, it formed the heart of the Inca Empire along with Cusco and Machu Picchu. Its fertile farmlands, Spanish colonial villages, Inca citadels and mountain escapes are all stunning places to explore and photograph.

Hiring a driver right from the bus terminal was the best option, as it allowed me to stop anywhere and for as long as I wanted. It was truly an amazing experience.

Here are some of my favorite landscape photos of the region, all made with Fuji X-T1 cameras. I will also post some portraits of the Sacred Valley’s people in my next post, so stay tuned.
